You’re feeling really stressed right now. A collector just called and left a message regarding a returned check that you may have w
ritten. Life is speeding by. Money is tight and all you need is another problem. You found us on the web and now what…?
Believe it or not, a company like NCT wants you to be free and clear of the collection cycle probably sooner than you think. Sure, returned checks are reasons for a company like ours to exist, but having a good relationship with our debtors is a key part of our company mission.
When you write a check that did not clear your bank for whatever reason, a company like NCT often stands in place to “insure” that check. However, you may not have even been made aware of our involvement until you received a call from us. If you have been contacted by one of our collectors, chances are you wrote a check at one of the many auto dealer, building materials, or furniture chain clients that we serve across the US and Canada. In most cases, NCT is simply trying to get a set date on when the debt will be paid and how. It is part of the promise we made to our clients and we are there to speak with you about the debt. Rest assured, we will treat you fairly.
The following is meant to help check writers deal with the collection process and get clear of it as soon as possible. If you owe other collection agencies for other debts, the information can be still useful.
- Don’t panic. Avoiding a collector’s calls is the worst thing you can do. Even if you are not prepared to make full payment, take the call or return it as soon as you can so that you can make the collector
aware of your situation. In these tough times, you’re not alone. We understand most every reason for a check to have gone bad and are trained to get you back on your feet as soon as possible. Your intentions were probably good when you wrote a check to one of our clients. If you need to tell us that you aren’t ready to pay, at least make the call to apprise us of how soon your situation may improve. Even on the first call, you can speak specifically to the best path — payment. - Payment of your debt is paramount. Fast payment assures that you are cleared in the proper databases* and that your name doesn’t get on any credit reporting bureaus* for non-payment of a check. Also, your local auto dealer may have just sold you a new car and your down payment is represented by the returned check. It would be prudent to pay the debt quickly so that service on your vehicle isn’t delayed and you can possibly do business by check with that dealer again. We all want you back in the business of paying by check if it is something that can be resolved.
- Payment terms are arranged by your collector and can be taken by phone. We accept many forms of payments like credit cards and, of course, ACH payments by phone. Ask your collector how to best handle your particular debt.
