Petition Started to Support Dealers That Were Terminated by Chrysler

Earlier today, we became aware of a petition that has been started in support of the nearly 800 auto dealers that were recently terminated by Chrysler, which is already operating under bankruptcy protected. According to the most recent reports, Chrysler still plans to cut an additional 2400+ dealers in the future.

An online petition has been started in support of these terminated Chrysler dealers at Petition2Congress.com. Each petition signature sends an email to your U.S. Senators and your Congressman. Here is an excerpt from the body of the petition, copy/pasted as it appears on the petition itself with all caps:

CHRYSLER TOOK $5 BILLION TAX DOLLARS FROM THE GOVERNMENT, BUT REFUSES TO BUY BACK THE PARTS AND VEHICLE INVENTORIES FROM THE TERMINATED DEALERS LEAVING THEM HOLDING MILLIONS IN WORTHLESS VEHICLES AND PARTS.

MAKE CHRYSLER BUY BACK THESE INVENTORIES AND PAY FOR THE TERMINATED FRANCHISES OF THE DEALERS.

HIDING BEHIND BANKRUPTCY LAWS IN ORDER TO DESTROY LIVES AND VOID FRANCHISE CONTRACTS MAY BE LEGAL, BUT IT IS IMMORAL AN UN-AMERICAN.

STOP CHRYSLER AND OUR GOVERNMENT FROM PUTTING PROFITS BEFORE PEOPLE.

MAKE OUR GOVERNMENT AND CHRYSLER STOP THIS MADNESS.

Some of signatures already present paint a very bleak picture of the impact of Chrysler’s large-scale dealer termination:

…The bankruptcy laws are in place for a reason and should not be altered for a quick emergence. Everyone should share in the resturcturing or the company should just close completely. I feel I have been defrauded and stolen from and my interest and money has been given to the new chrysler, the uaw, and the dealers who were not rejected.

~Charles Rashid — South Charleston, WV

Why would anyone with half a brain force local hard working business men and woman out of business, creating further unemployment for those currently employed by these dealerships; especially when there is no cost to Chrysler or GM for these dealerships to be in business?

~ John W. P. — Falls Church, VA

Like many other dealers, our family has owned this Ford dealership since 1939. We sell and service 2 school bus fleets, over 5 police departments, over 5 fire departments, plus generations of families. We are the largest employer in our community and one of the largest contributors to local organizations, schools, and churches. We are independent business men and women and a very important part of Main Street America. The terminations are 100% UN-AMERICAN in our free society and a direct violation/attach on the American dream.

~ Kim W. — New Springfield, OH

The termination of so many auto dealerships throughout the country is beginning to reverberate, and the effects will only become more pronounced when the rest of the 2,400+ Chrysler dealer terminations are announced. Click on the link below to sign the petition and support not only our dealership friends in the auto industry, but also the time-honored principles of fairness and competition that have made our great country what it is.
